What are Pubic lice?
Pubic lice, also known as crabs, are tiny insects (about 2mm long) that live in body hair.
How do you get it?
- They spread through close bodily contact with an infected person.
- They need human blood to survive, so will only leave the body to move from one person to another.
- The most common way pubic lice are spread is through sexual contact. Using condoms and other methods of barrier contraception doesn't protect you against pubic lice.
Where can I get diagnosed?
- Make an appointment with your GP or contact Grampian Sexual Health Services - call 0345 337 9900. One can also get advice and treatment from a local pharmacy.
